Business Academy

Learn about the dynamic, changing world of business from some of the top entrepreneurs and CEOs in Kansas during Business Week at Dodge City Community College. You will gain an understanding of the free enterprise system from outstanding, caring college professors. Explore the relationship between business, government and society in presentations by local, state and national political figures. Learn about career opportunities available in marketing, management, accounting, international business, finance and operations management. Share the experience with other top high school students!

Fire/Rescue and EMS Academy

Since the tragic terrorist attacks of 9-11-01, the need for additional American heroes continues. If you aspire to become part of our countries’ Fire Service and/or Emergency Response Personnel and would like to experience a taste of what such a career has to offer, then Fire/Rescue and EMS Academy is for you.

You will experience:

Kansas Future Teacher Academy

The Kansas Future Teacher Academy is an intense five-day orientation program for Kansas high school students considering teaching as a career.

The Academy introduces students to:

Future Nursing Academy

With the shortage of qualified nurses and health care professionals, choosing a career in the allied health field will be a smart decision. If you’re a student who’s interested in a health care career, the Future Nursing Academy at Dodge City Community College will help you learn where you fit in this growing, essential industry.

You’ll do that by:

Law Enforcement Academy

With the shortage of law enforcement officers across the state, this academy will help you explore the opportunities that await you. Our program focuses on the basic job functions that are required for entry-level law enforcement officers.

You will learn:

Music and Performing Arts Academy

The Music and Performing Arts Academy will focus on vocal performance in ensembles and in solo settings, culminating in a public concert. All participants will be immersed in an intensive program of classes in music theory, aural skills, music history, and ensemble rehearsal, as well as individual voice lessons. The program is designed with a wide range of students in mind, from those interested in majoring in music in college... to those who simply like performing as a hobby and would like to do it better.

Write to Win Academy

Write to Win gives you the opportunity to draft useful documents to include in college and employment applications over the course of two Saturday sessions. Both sessions include some lecture, lots of hands-on, and quite a bit of feedback from your classmates and your instructor. The first Saturday session (June 5), “Write to Win: Personal Essay,” focuses on writing an essay about educational or employment goals and motivations. During the second Saturday session (June 12), “Write to Win: Resumes and Cover Letters,” you’ll generate professional cover letters and a formatted listing of your accomplishments, awards, and experience. If you successfully complete both Saturday sessions, you can earn one hour of college credit.

Eligibility

Any student that will be a high school junior, senior, or college freshman in Fall, 2010, is eligible for Leadership Institute.
